We lay on the pavement, side by side. The spring air left goosebumps on my arms & we stared up at the sky. My eyes focused on the tiny cluster of stars in the circle of that old basketball hoop above us. I thought I could hear your heart race when I turned on my side  to face you. The wine had me fuzzy & wanting to reach out, but instead I listened to you tell me your little truths. I wanted to know your soul before I knew your skin, despite what that red devil swirling in my veins did whisper.

I wanted to know your soul
before I knew your skin,
MY GOD that's a beautiful line. Wow. That resonates so hard with me, because this is how I love. I want to know the heart and soul before the skin. Wow.
