4:23am is a fine time to surrender. no rest for fill-in lovers. I turn on the light & stare at the rubble of my world spilled over in the center of my room— the ruin left from when I wrecked it all for you. the crickets outside my second-story window are sure to make me mad. they whiskey-sing & moonshine-dance & quiet when I stumble onto that paper-thin balcony. I swear they practice new ways to sing songs that carry your name. oh, write out their lyrics. it’s not there. I know. they’ll say I’m crazy, but I’ll hear it. if I peel off my cat-skin, maybe they’ll retire. Salina! Salina! I can’t erase my nature. giving in, it’s fine. the city is now mine.
