sometimes I think I see the unseen. there is a dark mark on my collarbone. it is meant to ward those who are better off without me, away. but still, they come. I fear there is a magnet under bone & sinew. I want to rip it out, so they no longer walk up to my door. but I am fearful of nights without them, without the memory of you & all the ways you pulled & pushed. I traveled miles & took another lover. I followed footsteps, the ones I was convinced would drive you from this tired skull. there's a softness I own that I take out every so often. I pull it from my pocket, when guard is let down & safety is in my vision. I have it in my palm again, for you & you alone. take it.
